Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Horizontal Hammer Boring?
Geonex Horizontal Hammer Boring is a trenchless drilling method that uses down-the-hole (DTH) hammer technology to install fully cased boreholes through rock and mixed ground—without surface disruption.
This method is ideal for installing pipelines or cable conduits under roads, railways, and rivers. It performs exceptionally well in hard rock, unstable mixed soils, and blasted fill where other trenchless technologies struggle.
-
How does Geonex technology differ from traditional trenchless methods?
Geonex Horizontal Hammer Boring (HHB) rigs stand out with features that maximize precision, efficiency, and usability in difficult conditions:
- Independent jack-leg and side-shift orientation allow for accurate setup even on uneven surfaces, ensuring precise casing alignment from the start.
- Continuous feeding with rack & pinion technology eliminates stops and starts, increasing speed and consistency during drilling.
- Sophisticated remote controls provide real-time control over drilling parameters, enabling precise adjustments from a distance.
- Adaptive frame length means the rig can be shortened or extended depending on space constraints—ideal for tight urban sites or long bores.
These innovations help Geonex rigs perform where conventional auger boring or HDD struggle—especially in mixed ground and hard rock conditions.
-
What casing sizes and drilling lengths can Geonex rigs handle?
Geonex horizontal hammer boring systems support a wide casing diameter range from Ø139.7 mm (5 1/2”) to Ø1219.2 mm (48”), all installed in a single drilling phase with full casing support. Depending on the ground conditions and rig type, fully cased bores can reach lengths of 100–150 meters. In solid hard rock without casing, drilling distances of up to 500 meters are achievable—making Geonex ideal for demanding infrastructure projects.
